Service Description

Lympha is a quieter form of massage. Instead of deep pressure or muscular kneading, it uses slow, light and repeated movements across the skin and superficial tissues. The aim is to work with the body’s lymphatic system, which helps return excess tissue fluid to the circulation and forms part of normal immune function. Treatment usually begins centrally, often around the base of the neck and upper chest, before progressing to other areas of the body. Depending on what is appropriate for you, this may include the abdomen, back and sides of the torso, arms and hands, or the thighs, lower legs and feet. It does not have to be a full-body treatment, and the areas included will always be discussed with you beforehand. The abdomen can form an important part of Lympha, using broad, gentle movements over the abdominal wall, but it is entirely optional. The pressure is deliberately light. Much of the lymphatic network lies within or immediately beneath the skin, so heavy pressure is neither necessary nor particularly helpful. Instead, the hands use gentle sweeping, stretching, circular and softly pumping movements. The pace is slow, repetitive and calm, and many people find the treatment deeply relaxing. It should not hurt. Treatment is normally performed directly on the skin with little or no oil, as the technique relies partly on gently moving the skin and superficial tissues. Afterwards, some people describe feeling lighter, less heavy or simply very relaxed. There is no particular sensation you should experience, and Lympha is not intended to “detox” the body or force fluid from the tissues. Lympha is a lymph-stimulating soft tissue treatment, rather than clinical Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) for diagnosed lymphoedema. Unexplained or sudden swelling, active infection, significant one-sided swelling, or swelling associated with heart or kidney disease, thrombosis or cancer treatment should be medically assessed before lymph-focused massage. In essence, Lympha is slow, light and methodical bodywork supporting natural fluid movement without the intensity of conventional muscular massage.
